This past weekend i attended reenactorfest and it was amazing. Basically it's like walking through a history book, everyone is dressed in period dress, and they all stay in character. i wanted to faint, it was like a dream come true. on top of all that, there was a large selection of yarn and roving since they are both nice compliments to a woman's outfit no matter what era she is from so i went yarn crazy. i got 16 balls of roving (at a very cheap price mind you) and two skeins of yarn, plus another drop spindle (which i love more than the first one but dont tell it i said that).
Hopefully i will actually get into reenacting sometime soon, i dont think i could handle a year away from it. Elizabethan, renaisance or the american civil war are my top three choices, and we already have some good connections with some romans and greeks in case we want to do that route :)
Hopefully i'll remember to post some pictures here in the near future :)
In other news, i finished shawl #7 of 2010 (and #5 of the South Bay Shawlette pattern though mine are hardly shawlettes any more since i've been using worsted or aran weight yarn to make the pattern not fingering weight) which just happened to be the two skeins i purchased at Reenactorfest. it is the most amazing color of lilac-y purple and it is now sitting on my shoulders keeping me toasty while i write this and look outside at the potential blizzard :p and i finally have a shawl pin in which to pin it together, which is awesome because all of my shawls used to fall off unless i used a safty pin which i didnt like the look of.
oh yes, of course, the reenactorfest ball on saturday was fantastic! everyone was in their period ball gowns or suits (or what not) and every song the dj played was from a different era (renaisance, civil war, swing...) so we danced some renaisance dances and watched some civil war dances, it was all great fun and hopefully next year i will have a gown to dance in not just a sun dress.
Thats all for now i suppose. i am going to a hockey game tonight for a friends b-day and i'm going to wear a team shirt but i am so happy with my shawl that i am wearing the shawl over a turtleneck to class then i will change before the game, how could i deny myself the comfort of a huge wool shawl when we might be hit by a blizzard?
Happy Crafting :)
My triumphs and tradgedys in the world of crafting. At the moment i crochet, knit, occasionally scrapbook and cross stitch, and sew. I Love to read, so perhaps i will review some books here or something. Its just a fun thing to fill my dwindling summer days with :D Perhaps if i'm a good girl, i'll keep up with this all year!

Update on Projects
I suppose it is time i write another one of these. i've been busy with lots of projects and school over the past few weeks but it has all been fun. i wore my civil war dress for halloween and it was a huge hit!
i have also sucessfully cabled in crochet, and made a wonderful shawl (which will now be produced in wool, probably on my trip to boston). due to a wonderful sale at Michaels, i purchesed a large amount of wool and felted for the first time! i looooove wool! but only when it is 2.50 a skein instead of 5.00. basically i stocked up, i think over all i bought 11 skeins, but i couldnt help myself, it is sooo warm and the colors from Paton's are beautiful! of course i felted a pair of slippers, the most wonderful things ever, and i've made a wool cowl as well.
up next on my to do list is spinning yarn! i bought 2 ounces of purple alpaca and started carding that today, so that when my spindle arrives i can spin spin spin! i also bought a pound of llama to be carded and dyed perhaps! we shall see. this shall all come in handy when i have to give a presentation in class next week about a personal item, hand spun yarn kicks ass and is easy to break down for people...it came from these animals bla bla bla.
in other news i joined a website called ravelry to keep all of my projects in order, and see how long it took me. it is really fun to search for patterns and such! then i decided i'll crochet a sweater seeing as my shawl wasnt so bad!
of course i am off from school in 1 week so i will have loads of time to venture into the world of hand spinning and crocheted garments. i'd say shawl #1 will soon have a friend. Perhaps i can do some cleaning and organizing as well.
but now for the most exciting bit of news! i have gotten my first tattoo, an incredibly daring... ball of yarn and crochet hook :) it's purple and absolutely wonderful. when it is done healing, a picture shall be posted. in two weeks i think i will go back and get a little book on my right foot (the ball and hook are on my left :) )
oh and Jessi and i finally taught mom how to crochet, now shes working on a scarf, has made two hats, and working on a third. i simply cannot get enough of this crochet business!
